I Feel “Kotlled”… Read This Please !
On 15.11.2011 I was among those students who were present at prof. Ph. Kotler’s brief lecture on new marketing era in region.
To tell the truth, when I was signing the agreement of participation, I told myself, that no matter what, I want to see that genius of marketing. And I was ready to pay, despite the fact, that the price of the agreement was not low.
So, now I am summing up the results of the participation, and the feeling I have, can freely be called “feeling kotlled”…
My first impression about prof. Kotler: I would gladly study in the university where this professor teaches. He appeared to be a genius of lecturing. I was amazed how smoothly he started the lecture and finished it by answering the questions of the students. I was amazed how good he was informed about Armenia and Yerevan. During the lecture he brought live examples from Armenian reality.
But still… Armenian keep on being Armenian everywhere, in any situation and location. The organization of the event was quite poorly done. Let me explain why I think so.
First, I was among those participants who paid quite high price to be present there, but it appeared to be, that there were not enough places for everybody to sit! Some of my friends, whom I met there, could not find free seats. And because of this the lecture started 40 minutes later than mentioned. We were promised to have about 1.5 hours lecture, but we listened to Mr. Kotler exactly 55 minutes. So, now I am thinking… Isn’t this a violation of my consumer rights? But let me leave this for a later discussion with my lawyer friends.
After the organizers faced a big problem of enough places for all the invitation holders, they kindly asked us to handle the situation, and after the event they will give back the price that the standing participants paid. Ok. That would be great… But I still wonder: How are they going to check whether, for example, I was sitting or not? There were no seat numbers and raw numbers on the invitations!
Backlogging, if I take a look at the event, I paid 25.000 AMD just for the name Philip Kotler. Notice: I realized that I was doing it. But there were hundreds, that I am sure paid for the information they were going to get from the lecture. I am ready to announce: They did not get what they wanted.
Just now it sound to me ridiculous: paying 25.000 AMD just for 55 minutes of watching a person with a worldwide famous name.
Ok, there were also some inspiring tips in the lecture, and that could be a great start of smth else. But that was not worth the price, definitely.
